We are now Open for Regional Victorian Visitors:

Regional Victoria moved to the Third Step from 11.59 on 16th September 2020.

Note restrictions do apply. Ask our office to go through them at time of booking.  

Alpine Holiday Rentals has set up the recommended CovidSafe Principles for your peace of mind:

1. Physical Distancing: all of our properties are non shared properties. Keys and Access are Contactless

2. Face Coverings are worn by staff when cleaning

3. Operators practice good hygiene and hand Sanitiser provided in each property.

4. Record Keeping and screening of Guests is carried out for each stay.

5. Cleaning and Disinfecting of all rooms plus Defogging and locking down of each property after clean

6. Laundering of all linens is carried by professional laundry service.

7. Windows on most properties can be opened for fresh air.

We are also taking future summer bookings for Melbourne Guests - note restrictions apply - call our office for details.

Covid Cleaning Practices:

We have introduced an additional layer of cleaning for our Guests this Season.

Your Property will firstly be Pre-Cleaned by our Professionally Trained Cleaners, ensuring that all dirty linen is bagged to go to Mansfield Commercial Laundry Services, beds are freshly made up and general cleaning begins. The property will then be Fogged using a Sterilization fogging machine. Similar to hospital disinfection.

Mt Buller is releasing Lift Tickets in Batches for this Season to ensure the numbers are safe for your visit.

If you have purchased tickets through Alpine Holiday Rentals or are renting any of our properties and have purchased through, Buller Holidays or any other On Line Travel Agent - you will be notified in advance that the Tickets are about to go on sale.

At this stage you will be sent a Private Message from us.

As things are under constant change and a lot is out of our radius of influence we ask for everyone to have patience and we will do our best to look after our Guests.

We have all been holding our breath for the Announcement from Government this week. In the interests of Health and Safety to community and visitors we are going to need to wait a little longer before opening our doors.

The Victorian Tourism Industry Council said today: It was confirmed that Victorians can resume outdoor recreational activities such as surfing, boating, fishing and hiking, and some of our much-loved national parks and reserves will be opening across the state. However, camping and overnight stays remain off the agenda in Victoria.

We will post again early next week following our Chamber of Commerce Meeting with Mt Buller.

Hoping we can give you some further updates after this meeting.

Meanwhile we are all moving forward with the intention of opening sometime this season.

Special "Covid Cleans" are being enacted on each and every property.

Systems are being put into place to ensure that Guests can have a fabulous stay in a healthy environment.

Alpine Holiday Rentals and Mount Buller are committed to the health and wellbeing of all guests, employees and our community.

Access to the Mt Buller village currently remains open for residents and staff. The resort is following government mandated policies and guidelines and expects everyone to observe government directives regarding non-essential travel and physical distancing. Our collective health and future depends on it.

Please note as of 30 March the Victorian government directive is Victorians must only leave their homes for food & supplies, medical care, exercise, or work & education and people should not undertake any non-essential travel. This means people should not travel to the Victorian alpine resorts for social or recreational purposes or activities such as working bees until further notice. Check current Victorian State of Emergency restrictions.

We’ll update this page regularly as information relating to coronavirus (COVID-19) is confirmed and our plans evolve, so please continue to check in here.

Mt Buller COVID 19 Cancellation Policy

This policy is in addition to the standard booking terms and conditions provided by Buller Holidays. In the event of any inconsistencies between these this policy shall take precedence. Due to the unprecedented nature of the COVID 19 pandemic Mt Buller will provide comfort to guests booking holidays in these uncertain times. Buller Holidays will provide a cancellation, change of dates, credit forward or full refund on all prepaid resort entry, accommodation, lift, lesson, rental products and other pre-paid services and activities if;

· You or a family member (or travelling companion) contract COVID 19 and are unable to travel on your intended dates; OR

· The Mt Buller resort is closed due to COVID 19; OR

· Government policies due to COVID 19 prevent you from travelling on your intended dates; OR

· Your transport is cancelled or disrupted due to COVID 19 preventing you from arriving in resort for your travel dates.

If your circumstance meets any of the criteria listed above, please contact the Mt Buller reservations team to request a reservation change, or cancellation. You will be required to provide supporting documentation such as a medical certificate when applying for a cancellation or reservation change. All claims, with supporting documentation, are to be submitted no later than 24 hours prior to arrival. This policy provides guests with more certainty in booking snow holidays at Mt Buller in these uncertain times and should be viewed as an addition to rather than a replacement for travel insurance which is recommended. 24 March 2020


To protect all guests, employees and the wider community we’re following all government mandated guidelines and health recommendations and ask you to do the same. Stay home. Protect our health system. Save lives.

To keep safe and protected we have these measures in place and we expect all members of our community to follow the government directives:

  • We’re following stringent practises for cleanliness in all venues
  • Rigorous standards are being maintained for food handling
  • Staff have been directed to self-isolate as per guidelines in the instance of illness or recent travel.
  • Mt Buller is following all Australian Department of Health’s Guidelines here.
  • No camping is permitted anywhere in the resorts until further notice
  • All public BBQs, playgrounds, tennis courts and other recreational facilities are closed until further notice

  • The ABOM café is providing meals, coffee and snacks for take away only. Limited take away wine and beer is also available.
  • Food service is offered daily 9am – 2pm and 5pm – 8pm
  • Coffee, cold drinks and cabinet snacks are offered 9am – 8pm

I want to ski and snowboard this winter. Will Mt Buller Mt Stirling be open for 2020?

At this stage it is too early to tell how the 2020 season will be impacted due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and all decisions will be made in accordance with instruction from Victoria’s Chief Health Officer. We hope to have the resort open for skiing and snowboarding, and have been working preparing with the expected completion of the village development, expanded snowmaking and a large new water storage reservoir. We are a very agile industry well adapted to the uncertainty of snow seasons, and are currently preparing to open on the Queen’s Birthday weekend, along with contingency plans if this cannot occur. I’ve purchased lift passes and accommodation for the 2020 season. Can I get a credit or refund?

We understand coronavirus (COVID-19) may require changes to your plans between now and then, and we don’t want you to worry. Mt Buller operators have developed an updated cancellation policy to provide customers some peace of mind.

In addition to the existing cancellation policy offered by most operators that enables refunds for cancellations outside 30 days of an intended visit, a new coronavirus (COVID-19) specific policy has been developed allowing you to request a cancellation, change of dates, credit forward or full refund on your pre-paid resort entry, accommodation, lift, lesson, rental products and other pre-paid services and activities from participating partners if;

  • You or a family member (or travelling companion) contract coronavirus (COVID-19) and are unable to travel on your intended dates; OR
  • The Mt Buller resort is closed due to coronavirus; OR
  • Government policies due to coronavirus prevent you from travelling on your intended dates; OR
  • Your transport is cancelled or disrupted due to coronavirus preventing you from arriving in resort for your intended dates.
  • Right now you do not need to do anything, but you can be assured you have protection should coronavirus prevent you from going ahead with your plans for winter.

I have a season membership for 2020 – what will happen with that?

While we all hope to enjoy time on the slopes this winter, we have developed a COVID-19 refund policy to give our valued Mt Buller season members and Mt Buller & Mt Stirling resort entry season pass holders peace of mind if this cannot happen.

What will happen with the 2020 Snow Squad Seasonal Programs?

Although we hope the Snow Squad participants may be able to enjoy some time on the slopes this winter, we have developed contingencies if the season can’t go ahead as planned. Simply, if we cannot deliver the Snow Squad program there will be credits or refunds. 

When will you open this season?

Mt Buller snow season traditionally opens on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend in June, or when we have sufficient snow to start operations, whichever comes first. A later opening is always a possibility and is part of our planning for 2020. We will advise as we know more.

What if you can’t open this winter?

Unfortunately this is a scenario that we must plan for. Should the coronavirus situation prevent the resort operating this winter Mt Buller will implement cancellation and refunds as required and adjust plans to protect our guests and operators. This is a huge challenge for our community, our nation and our planet so we will take each step deliberately and responsibly as the situation evolves.

The resort has a vital role providing jobs, supporting families and sustaining businesses within our community. When this challenge has passed we will be ready to play our part in the post-bushfires and coronavirus recovery for the region.


I want to go mountain biking and hiking. Can I come up to the mountain?

The government directives (as from 30 Mar) require Victorians to only leave their homes for food & supplies, medical care, exercise, or work & education and people should not undertake any non-essential travel. This means people should not travel to the Victorian alpine resorts for social or recreational purposes. So unless you are living here you should not be exercising here. If you are here in resort you are required to maintain physical distancing from others when exercising for your own safety and for those around you.

Please note that as of 27 April the mountainbike trails are now closed for maintenance and biking is not permitted. Locals walking in the area are also asked to follow all signs and stay off trails under maintenance.
